Sawyer Twain is a premium furniture retailer specializing in pool tables, with around 1,000 products in their BigCommerce store. Sawyer Twain wanted to drastically increase their range, branching into new categories, broadening their appeal and online visibility to bring more traffic and shoppers to their site.
Sawyer Twain was aware they would need a more efficient or automated process to onboard the high volumes of new products and create the complex product options available in their product range. They also did not currently have the time or skill set available within their existing team to maintain the continually changing product range and supplier pricing. These factors led them to get in touch with Vesta to provide them with the tools needed to scale their product offering.
Vesta onboarded the new products by establishing the best data source with each vendor and then setting up a feed for ongoing data collection.
The incoming supplier product data is then cleaned and prepared for eCommerce by undergoing a series of data cleaning transformations, including:
- Categorization - mapping the vendor-provided categories to the Sawyer Twain categories and subcategories.
- Variant Building - creating options, option sets, and parent/ child relationships from the information provided spread across multiple spreadsheets provided by the vendor.
- Product Descriptions - created in a standardized format by extracting and concatenating the information from vendor data. Including Brief description + paragraph + feature bullet points + shipping details + warranty information
- Adding picklist options and rules

The cleaned and prepared product data is then synced directly to the Sawyer Twain BigCommerce store. Over time, as product and price updates come through from vendors, the new data runs through the cleaning process before updating into the online store and maintaining accuracy over time.
With Vesta, Sawyer Twain has added 831 new parent products with 19.6 million product options or SKUs to their online store, sourced from 9 new suppliers. This breadth of product options is possible due to the BigCommerce API’s power and front-end ability to load so many attributes and still create a quick loading page and excellent user experience.
